Welcome to Leirvassbu PDF Print E-mail
leirvassbu-logoLeirvassbu mountain lodge is situated at the lake leirvatnet, just below the characteristic mountain Kyrkja. Leirvassbu (1400m above sea level) is the perfect base camp for mountain rambling, summit hikes, glacier walks and courses, spring skiing, climbing and fishing.
Leirvassbu has always held a massive attraction for mountain ramblers and climbers in Jotunheimen. From Leirvassbu you can climb at least 40 2000m peaks in the immediate area.

The Norwegian Trekking Association have listed and marked routes going from Leirvassbu to all the mountain lodges in the area. There are daily glacier walks in the summer season. In the winter season there are well marked and prepared tracks to all the lodges in the area.

It was Jessie and Aamund Elveseter who built and made Leirvassbu into the attraction it is today. The first Leirvassboden was built in 1875 in cooperation with The Norwegian Trekking Association. The lodge has been extended and renovated in 1906 and 1957.

Leirvassbu has possibly some of the most loyal guests imaginable, they return again and again, sometimes generation follows generation.

There are a number of well known and famous personages who have visited Leirvassbu, possibly the best known is Sir Edmund Hillary, who visited Leirvassbu twice in the 1950`s in order to field test his equipment before his expedition to Antarctica.

Today, Tove and Ole Jacob Grindvold are the hostess and host at Leirvassbu.

Winter season: From Easter to the 4th of May.
Summer season: From 20th of June until the end of September.
